After working for six years at the prestigious New York literary agency Sanford J. Greenburger Associates, Julie Barer started her own agency, Barer Literary, in 2004.
When accepting new clients for representation, Julie is especially interested in working with emerging writers and developing long term relationships. Her list is extremely selective, which enables her to offer her clients the attention and support services they deserve. Julie remains consistently engaged with each aspect of the publishing process, from carefully editing the manuscript and placing the book with the right publisher, and helping conceptualize cover art and promotion, to planning for paperback publication and beyond. Julie works directly with co-agents around the world to sell foreign and subsidiary rights for her clients, and has attended the Frankfurt and London Books Fairs numerous times.
Julie attended the Jerusalem Book Fair as an Agent Fellow in 2003 and she is a member of the Association of Authors' Representatives. Before becoming an agent, Julie worked at Shakespeare & Co. Booksellers in New York City. She is a graduate of Vassar College.
